This article explains how GST (Goods and Services Tax) applies to your earnings on Blys, how invoices are generated, and what happens for Support at Home bookings.
Do I need to register for GST?
You must register for GST with the ATO once your total annual turnover (from all sources) reaches or exceeds $75,000. If you are below that threshold, registration is optional.
If you are unsure whether you are required to register, we recommend speaking with your accountant or visiting the ATO website.
How do I opt in for GST on my Blys account?
Once you are registered for GST with the ATO, you need to opt in for GST on your Blys provider account. You can do this in your account settings.
When GST is enabled on your account, Blys will generate invoices on your behalf that include GST — making them compliant with ATO requirements.
Does my payout change if I register for GST?
No — your payout amount does not change based on whether or not you are registered for GST.
The difference is in how your invoice is presented to the client:
- Registered for GST: The invoice will state that the amount is GST-inclusive (i.e. GST is included in the total).
- Not registered for GST: The invoice will state that GST is not applicable.
In both cases, the dollar amount you receive for each completed booking remains the same.
What about Support at Home (homecare) bookings?
Bookings funded through government home care programs — such as Support at Home — are GST-free supplies under ATO rules. Government-funded in-home care is exempt from GST regardless of whether you are registered for GST.
This means that even if you have GST enabled on your account, invoices for Support at Home bookings will correctly show that no GST is applied.
Your payout for these bookings is not affected.
How do I access my financial reports?
You can download your own end-of-financial-year summary and earnings reports directly from your Blys account at any time — no need to request a report from the Blys team.
