This article explains how GST (Goods and Services Tax) applies to your earnings on Blys in New Zealand, how invoices are generated, and what this means for your payout.
Do I need to register for GST?
In New Zealand, you must register for GST with Inland Revenue (IR) once your total annual turnover from all sources reaches or exceeds NZD $60,000. If you are below that threshold, registration is optional.
If you are unsure whether you need to register, we recommend speaking with your accountant or visiting the Inland Revenue website at ird.govt.nz.
How do I mark my Blys account as GST-registered?
Once you are registered for GST with Inland Revenue, you can update your GST registration status directly in your Blys provider account settings - no need to contact us.
When your account is marked as GST-registered, Blys will note the tax explicitly on the invoice issued to the client on your behalf.

Does my payout change if I am registered for GST?
No - your payout amount does not change based on whether or not you are registered for GST.
All payouts automatically include GST. The service rate and the payout amount remain the same regardless of your GST registration status. The only difference is how the invoice is presented to the client:
- Registered for GST: The invoice will explicitly note that the amount includes GST.
- Not registered for GST: The invoice will reflect that GST does not apply.
In both cases, the dollar amount you receive for each completed booking remains the same.

Do I need to create my own invoice?
No - Blys handles invoicing on your behalf. An invoice is automatically generated for every completed booking and sent to the client.
