There are 9 different massage modalities that you can offer your clients through the Blys platform.
Some modalities require specialised qualifications (in addition to the standard massage therapy qualification) and special equipment (in addition to standard equipment requirements).
As per our Licence Agreement and to ensure a great experience for your clients you are required to hold relevant qualifications for the services you offer. Please refer to the below table for more information.
Modality | Definition | Equipment | Qualification |
Relaxation / Swedish Massage | The main goal of this massage is to relax the client fully. You would typically use long strokes that create a nice overall flow over the whole body. |
Deep Tissue / Remedial Massage | This is still a full-body massage, but uses a bit more pressure. You can target more trigger points and really aim to get those knots out while still making the client feel like you covered the entire body. |
Sports Massage | Typically, the goal for this modality of massage is to help with recurring tightness or problems due to sports, training, or everyday activity and use. You might do some assessments before and after, some stretches, and maybe some active release techniques during the massage. The client may want the massage targeted specifically to those problem areas as opposed to getting to the entire body. |
Pregnancy Massage | This type of massage is for women who are more than 12 weeks pregnant and is performed while the client is lying on their side. It’s best to make the client comfortable using pillows under the head and in between the legs. You should avoid using essential oils and only use a lighter pressure avoiding trigger points altogether. |
Lymphatic Drainage | A gentle massage that works to effectively move waste fluid around the body and support the normal functioning of the immune system by using light and rhythmic hand movements that stimulate the lymph nodes. |
Aromatherapy | A gentle and relaxing massage that includes the use of essential oils. The aromas from the essential oils help calm the mind, relax the body, and promote better sleep. |
Hot Stone Massage | A combination of warm essential oils, long-flowing strokes, and weighted stones are used to break down muscle tension and stress, encourage blood flow and stimulate circulation in the body. |
Cupping | An ancient form of alternative medicine involves the use of suction cups on the back. The suction increases blood flow to the areas where the cups are placed which helps promote relaxation and healing and reduces pain and inflammation. |
Reflexology | A type of therapy that uses gentle pressure on specific points along the feet, hands, and ears to restore balance, relieve stress, stimulate the nervous system, and promote better sleep. |
Traditional Chinese Massage | Traditional Chinese Medicine massage therapists use their elbows, fingers, and hands to rhythmically stimulate acupuncture points, producing a vibration that influences the flow of energy through the body. |
Reiki Energy healing | A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being. |
Assisted Stretching | Assisted Stretching is stretching with the assistance of another person. Assisted stretching allows your body to move in ways that it is not able to when stretching alone. |
Oncology Massage | Oncology massage uses light touch and slow, steady movements, working with the central nervous system to help the body relax. |
Thai Massage | In Thai massage, a practitioner uses stretching, pulling, and rocking techniques to attempt to relieve tension, promote relaxation, and improve flexibility and circulation. |
Geriatric Massage | A geriatric massage technique employs light, gentle massage and passive stretching to ease muscle tension without excessive friction on the skin. |
Myofascial Release Therapy | Myofascial release therapy is a type of gentle, constant massage that releases tightness and pain throughout your myofascial tissues. First, your healthcare provider will locate trigger points, or knots, in your fascial tissues. Then, they'll gently apply pressure until they feel the tension release |
Lomi Lomi Massage | Using long, deep strokes, the massage therapist will use their hands and forearms to relax your muscles and promote blood circulation throughout your body. |
